For some years now, the business around sneaker reselling has grown into a huge market. Many people not only buy sneakers to wear them, but as an investment or to resell them later. Here are usually not even the most limited sneakers, which are often resold, but everyday shoes that achieve a high resale value. The trend has been around the world for several years and is a real, global phenomenon. It is an industry that is constantly changing.

The reasons for the reselling of sneakers are varied - some simply want to get the latest releases in order to be able to continue their hobby as a collector and, above all, to finance them by buying and resolving several couples. Some make the business "only" to make money, which is also a completely legitimate reason, a so -called sidehustle. Pupils who can hardly earn anything can make something to earn pocket money.

At the beginning, as with any business you want to build, you should put a few notes aside that you can invest. Since the sneakers sometimes cost between € 100 - 350 in the retail price, in my opinion you should have saved at least € 1,500 and be ready to spend it.

Buy sneakers - but which one?

If you are completely new to the game, you should first find out very well about what is currently trendy and above all asked. Don't buy sneakers indiscriminately, which you can no longer get away or only get it very difficult. In good time you can collect information on Hypenewz or via the app with the colleagues from Heat MvMntthat offer great raffle lists and release calendar. Check out sales platforms if you have a price in your head and adapts it to it, always leave scope for negotiating, since the private market is often not as predictable as it seems.

By the way: The more raffles you fill out, the higher your chance to get a limited sneaker for retail!

WTS, WTB, WTF?

The sneaker community has its own language bubble, which comes a lot from the English. WTB is called Want to Buy - with this one signals in marketplaces that you want to buy the sneaker mentioned. WTS, on the other hand, is the opposite - Want to Sell: I want to sell this sneaker at the price mentioned. Retail is simply the price you pay in the store when you get it for the dealer price. Resell is of course the price you get on the free market - very simple, right? Another sneakerhead term is "DS", translated by the Deadstock, i.e. dead article. This means that a sneaker case has never been put on or used in the case, which drives the price a little again. The term Deadstock with Tags (DSWT) is even more specific, which clearly signals that the sneaker has never been touched.

Actually very simple, right?

Social media influence

A huge reason for the reselling trend is social media growth and internationalization of the Internet itself. So you can connect to many buyers/sellers without doing anything big, after all, both parties are interested in sneakers and business. Tikok and Instagram can reach a lot of customers and thus make a lot of money with moderate marketing. Social media can also be used and inform yourself for the research.

Are there any disadvantages of reselling?

Where there is money to make, there will always be people who do not agree. Some sneakers collectors who have been Jordans, Adidas or New Balance Buying and maintaining shoes are annoyed by the artificial shortage of resellers and companies. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get your favorite sneakers for the retail price and the high request to limited sneakers forces the manufacturers to restrict their production. For example, there are more and more regional releases, which of course brake the end consumer.

What is your opinion on this?

Graduation words

On the one hand, the demand for sneakers is increasing and there is currently no change in sight. You also have to say that many people earn their money to resell sneakers. Unfortunately, as also mentioned in the disadvantages.

It remains to be seen how the sneaker trade will develop in the coming years.
