Michael Jordan's success not only celebrated his team members, but also his shoe sponsor Nike. The young athlete actually wanted to go to the shoe manufacturer Adidas at the time, but as it became known, nothing became of this agreement.

Jordan 3 was also born at that time. This should meet certain specifications:

  • The Jordan 3 should have a mid-cut
  • Be light and flexible
  • He should have an air bubble

For the first time, Michael Jordan showed Jordan 3 at the All Star Game in 1988. This shoe was the beginning of the well -known Air-Jordan-Row. Tinker Hatfield designed the design of the shoe and created a middle thing between high top and low top shoes.

In contrast to the Jordan Lows the Jordan 3 offered more flexibility and at the same time stability. He was created to be a middle ground between Jordan 1 and 2.

What should the shoe look like according to Michael Jordan's ideas?

However, the shoe almost never saw the light of day. The previous designers of the Nike shoes left the team because they wanted to become self-employed with their own label. In addition, the contract with professional Michael Jordan soon expired and an extension was not yet secured. At that time, Tinker Hatfield came to the team. This was given the order to take care of the design of the Jordan 3. He had a long conversation with Jordan and the two worked out the key points of the shoe. He should:

  • have a medium height
  • be comfortable
  • have soft leather to be able to run the shoe perfectly
  • Have sophistication

When Jordan saw the new shoe, he was convinced and signed the contract extension at Nike. The shoe was exactly what he had imagined. Including his logo in the center of the shoe.

Which shoes of the Jordan 3 were there first?

There were a number of Jordan 3, which he presented on the field after the first prototypes. The first shoe was the width cement. This was followed by the Black Cement, then the "Fire Red" and the "True Blue". He wore the latter in the NBA game 2001.

The first two models in particular were released. The Jordan 3 is a popular shoe. However, he never reached the hype like Jordan 1, 4 or Air Jordan 5

What was the Jordan 3?

The Jordan 3 is a mid-top model. An Air unit was also visible. The shoe received a legendary Jordan Jumpman Logo, as did the "Elephant" print. A Nike Swoosh was implemented on the first prototypes. However, this does not make it to the other shoes.

Why is the Jordan 3 so popular?

The Jordan 3 is the most popular shoe of the Jordan Brand series. This shoe has managed to combine sports and street shoes. It is timeless and simple, but can still convince due to the silhouette, materials and variety of colors.

Some of the new models have not been sold in Europe. But the internet makes it possible to get this shoe anyway.

How did the success story of Michael Jordan and the Jordan 3 start?

Nike signed the then unknown Michael Jordan in 1984. At that time, the young man was only 21 years old and was not yet a successful athlete. He actually wanted a contract with Adidas because this brand was an absolute hype in the 80s. In the first year he received $ 440,000 for advertising and was involved in the shoe sale.

He broke the rules of the NBA in 1984. At that time, the team was only allowed to wear uniform shoes on the field. At the time, he got a penalty of $ 5,000 per game from the NBA, in which he did not stick to the rules, Nike was happy to take on this punishment at the time. After all, Jordan did a lot more advertising for her company in this way and thus also increased the sales figures.
